Everyone noticed that in the long run, the down can transfer from one compartment to another if the compartments are not completely impermeable. To avoid this nuisance we attach all the partitions to one another. The down cannot get out of the compartment during the whole life of the product, even after several washes.
For an optimal insulation, the down must be well maintained. When there is a hole in the down insulating layer , the loss of warm air can considerably decrease the performance of a good down, as in a badly insulated house. By seeking the best down weight /compartment volume ratio we noticed that by multiplying the number of compartments we very appreciably increased the performance of the down: less down in more compartments = maximum lightness and insulation in the long run.
Compartments with straight macro aired partitions, inner pin tuck stitched.
The neck collar is 25cm high all around, thus giving ease of movement around the neck inside the bag. Its downwards tightening, slightly shifted in relation to the edge avoids the strangling sensation.
This edge-band, when closing the contoured hood , keeps the down behind the drawcord. This prevents the formation of the classic icicle caused by the breathing condensation.
This protective system of lateral fastening makes it possible to gain weight by removing the traditional downy protective band , whilst avoiding wedging the zip in the fabric. By giving a round shape volume to the edge of the opening, when the zip is closed, both puffed up edge-bands press up against each other, thus avoiding any passage of air through the zip. The fabric of the edge-bands is reinforced and the slider of the zip does not get stuck.
A natural matter Down is a natural matter, used since time immemorial to keep warm.. It is a body produced by the skin of water birds, on the belly and under the wings, to protect the vital parts during their migratory journeys.
The down is made of long and fine barbs called barbules and contrary to the feather, has no shaft. Its origine is the same as the scales of reptiles, the ancestors of birds.
Exceptional properties As for wool and hair, the α and β keratins help the down to resist physical and chemical agents. This explains its longevity. Retaining the air in its multiple filaments, the down is an excellent heat insulator, all the more effective since it favours the circulation of steam.
Down processing Our experience guarantees to preserve the natural properties of the down (volume, impermeability and durability), without addition of useless chemicals and in the respect of the required hygiene standards. The soft treatment confers our “000” sleeping bag a higher than the average aptitude to evacuate humidity, and our total quality control guarantees to you a 800 CUIN * (cubic inches) minimum down sleeping bag , without additives. * CUIN: unit used in the international down used in high mountain equipment tests. .
It's our lightest fabric ever for sleeping bags and jackets. For a minimum weight it must be souple and hard-wearing. Its function is to "breathe" enough in order to allow the passage of the steam released by the body, whilst preventing the down from filtering through. It is hydrophobic (Teflon treated) and dries quickly if it gets wet.
On the ground, ventilate and expose inside out to the sun or in the open air, as soon as possible, each time the sleeping bag is a little wet.
Avoid keeping the sleeping bag wet and compressed for too long .
If one uses a wet “TRIPLES ZERO” sleeping bag, experience shows that the sleeping bag combined with the body heat will pump moisture and in the morning one is dry, the sleeping bag will have collected the moisture and it will have then to be dried.
If one bivouacs without protection under the rain, the fabric will be wet first, but the naturally hydrophobic down will take a few hours before getting really wet.
At home, never keep the sleeping bag compressed and even less wet or dirty, and above all not in an airtight closed packaging.
Ideally, it should be kept opened, but the provided storage bag is perfectly appropriate.
You can send us your sleeping bag or your clothing : we carry out the maintenance, for 21€ + postage(16 € for France, 23 € other E.C. countries E.C. + Switzerland).
The first wash is free, you just pay the postage.
Maximum washing machine settings: 30°C maximum, program wool or delicate + normal spin-drying, with a neutral soft detergent such as household soap.
Drying in dryer at low temperature for 1 to 2 hours until the sleeping bag opens, because when wet it tends to gather in bundles.
Let it rest for one night and put it back in dryer for 1 to 2 hours to finish drying.
Let it rest 24 more hours before storing it.
Maximum washing machine settings: 30°C maximum, program wool or delicate + normal spin-drying, with a neutral soft detergent such as household soap.
For small articles, accessories, waistcoats or small down jackets one can dry them in domestic 5kg dryers as in laundries.
For large articles, sleeping bags, large down jackets, dry in the open air.
The down must open in the course of the day, for that it is from time to time necessary to undo the down bundles which formed during the wash and then shake the item.
Make sure that the down is completely dry before storing it.
